The Thief and the Cobbler - Arabian Knight, film en français - Cette histoire, tirée de "Les Mille et Une Nuits" montre l'amitié entre un jeune voleur, qui connaît mille astuces pour survivre, et un pauvre cordonnier qui doit travailler dur pour aller de l'avant. En 1968, Richard Williams, vainqueur de trois Oscars, a commencé à travailler sur ce film d'animation dont le titre était "Le Voleur de Bagdad" (Le Voleur et le cordonnier). Comme il a été destiné à un public adulte et n'a eu aucun dialogue, la production a rencontré de nombreux pièges. Après près de 20 années de travail, Williams avait seulement vingt minutes de film. En 1990, Warner Bros a décidé de financer le projet.
