Un génie, compositeur, chanteur et artiste qui maniaco dépressifs médicaments et la maladie mentale menées rencontres imaginaires avec le diable. Depuis très peu de Daniel a montré traits de son génie et de la créativité artistique à travers ses bandes dessinées et les enregistrements en Super 8. Le documentaire suit le personnage et montre aussi comment devient culte se fondant sur ses propres enregistrements de Daniel Johnston.
