The Clearing, film en français - Wayne (Robert Redford), un homme d'affaires connu, Hayes et Eileen (Helen Mirren) sont un couple qui semble avoir atteint le rêve américain. Mais toutes les illusions sauter quand il est enlevé par un homme (Willem Dafoe) à la lumière du jour. Comme l'enquête du FBI progresse, Eileen découvre que derrière les apparences amicales une vie pleine de secrets, de mensonges et de la misère est cachée. Pendant ce temps, Wayne, qui avait toujours vanté d'être un habile négociateur, découvrir, tout à coup, que son sort est entre les mains d'un homme qui n'a rien à perdre et tout à gagner.
